The reorganization of a company in order to attain greater efficiency and to adapt to new markets. Major corporate restructuring transactions include mergers, acquisitions, tender offers, leveraged buyouts , divestitures, spin-offs, equity carve-outs, liquidations and reorganizations .    A process whereby a borrower arranges to replace debt of one maturity with debt of another maturity. Can also be used loosely to describe the exchange of corporate debt for shares when a company cannot meet its debt repayments.
